Birthday Memorial Tribute
Dream House Paris
A La Monte Young Marian Zazeela Dream House environment is featured in the new Centre Pompidou exhibition Sons et Lumières. This exhibition, which opened in Paris on September 22, 2004 and continues through January 3, 2005, presents a thematic and chronological view of the various methods used to incorporate music and sound into the field of visual arts in the
twentieth century. The Young Zazeela Dream House installation includes Young’s sound environment, The Prime Time Twins in The Ranges 448 to 576; 224 to 288; 112 to 144; 56 to 72; 28 to 36; with The Range Limits 576, 448, 288, 224, 144, 56 and 28, as well as two original scores, Compositions 1960#7 and #9, set in Zazeela’s lightworks: the environment, Primary Light (Red/Blue), the light sculptures, Untitled (M/B), and Sound / With / In, the neon, Dream House Variation II and the environment, Magenta Day / Magenta Night. The installation is drawn from the French government collection (FNAC), augmented by a lightwork from the collection of Marcel Fleiss, and the scores from the artists’ collection. The 2100 square metres of the Sons & Lumières exhibition are divided into three areas, with over 400 works – many of them on show for the first time – providing an enormous range of sensory experiences and highlighting the crucial moments of the interaction between music/sound and the visual arts. The Museum at Place Georges Pompidou, 75004 Paris is open from 11 am - 9 pm daily except Tuesdays. For more information see www.centrepompidou.fr
