Limited-time Log Cabin Fundraiser

The Bern, Idaho log cabin where La Monte Young was born and spent his early childhood made an indelible mark on the composer. Years later, he would cite listening to the wind whistle through the logs of the cabin's walls as one of his earliest musical memories. The sonic influence of the log cabin—the solitary drone of the plain, the electric buzz of a lone telephone wire—is particularly evident in the extended-duration compositions that cemented Young as one of the most significant composers in modern music history.

Today, however, the log cabin is in desperate need of repair. The roof has been severely compromised, and resultant water damage will soon render the structure irreparable without immediate intervention.

To raise the funds necessary for these pressing repairs, MELA Foundation is selling a limited number of archival postcards featuring Marian Zazeela's 1979 photograph of the cabin and signed by La Monte Young; 100% of the proceeds will go towards MELA's restoration efforts. For further information about the campaign, or to donate directly, please click here.
